Vintage Japanese Matcha Bowl, Chawan - Crackled Glaze with Pine
A vintage Japanese chawan, a bowl for drinking matcha, with a wide rounded body and an irregular rim.
Thick cream glaze covers it and has crazed all over into a fine brown network. Across one side a pine is painted in green and iron brown, with a smaller worked form beneath it in the same colours. Toward the base the glaze gives way to a warm orange band, the foot ring is cut with a notch on one side, and inside the foot the clay is carved in a spiral.
