This vintage Japanese chawan is a hand-made tea bowl, designed for preparing and drinking matcha, a powdered green tea.
A wide, flared shape (hira-gata), with a pale ash glaze in a soft cream tone and subtle grey mottling throughout. Simple, understated form with a narrow footring.
