This is a vintage Japanese tea bowl, called a chawan, hand-crafted for drinking matcha, Japan's powdered green tea.
A gently flared, bowl-shaped form (wan-nari) with ribbed, grooved sides and an ochre ash glaze in warm ochre and brown tones, giving the surface a strong horizontal texture.
