Vintage Japanese Ceramic Tanuki Statue, Black & Cream
A slender vintage Japanese ceramic tanuki statue, a wide hat atop its head and a small slip at its chest, symbolizing trust and honesty.
Dark iron-black glaze covers the hat and coat, with a contrasting pale cream glaze across the face and belly. A Japanese character is inscribed on the chest slip, and a small sake jug tied at the hip carries a second painted character. The form carries a rounded belly and a slender silhouette.
