Vintage Japanese Yunomi Tea Cups, Set of Two - Stoneware

A set of two vintage Japanese stoneware yunomi (tea cups), presented in a signed wooden box.

Each cup is finished in a heavily textured ash glaze in sandy grey-green tones with rich brown flashing at the base, and incised horizontal banding around the mid-section. The two cups vary slightly in form and surface. The signed tomobako (presentation box) suggests these were made by a named potter.

Yunomi are everyday Japanese tea cups, distinct from the more formal chawan used in the tea ceremony, and valued for their tactile quality and suitability for daily use.
