Vintage Japanese Tall Ikebana Basket - Bamboo

A vintage Japanese tall ikebana basket. Made from split take (bamboo) with a natural bamboo internal liner.

The basket features a tall, slender cylindrical form with an open, rustic lattice weave of dark bamboo strips. A small braided loop handle sits at the top rim, and a bamboo cylinder serves as the internal liner.  

Known as a hanakago, this style of basket is traditionally used to hold simple ikebana flower arrangements, with the exposed light coloured natural bamboo liner providing a deliberate textural contrast to the dark outer basketry.
