Vintage Japanese Oribe Tea Cups, Set of Two - Stoneware

A set of two vintage Japanese stoneware Oribe tea cups.

Each cup features a ribbed cream body with vertical blue brushstroke detailing and a pooling green glaze to the interior and upper rim, draping unevenly over the lip. The rims are slightly pinched and irregular, characteristic of handmade work.

Oribe ware is distinguished by its copper-green glaze, developed in Japan during the Momoyama period and associated with a bold, expressive aesthetic that continues to influence Japanese ceramics today.
