Vintage Japanese Noren - Hemp | Bird & Floral Motif

A vintage Japanese natural hemp noren.

Two panels in an undyed natural ground, printed with a repeating motif of birds amongst trailing foliage in warm brown tones. The open weave of the hemp cloth gives the piece a soft, semi-translucent quality, with a rod sleeve intact at the top.

Noren are traditional Japanese fabric dividers, historically hung in doorways to signal that a business was open, or used within the home to separate interior spaces.
