A vintage Japanese kiri (paulownia) kimono storage chest of drawers in two sections. Made from kiri (paulownia) wood, with copper hardware. Showa period, mid 20th century.
The upper section houses a pair of cabinet doors with mitre-cut panel detailing and copper corner fittings, opening to interior storage space. Three wide drawers below are each fitted with copper drop handles.
Kiri (paulownia) was the traditional choice for kimono storage in Japan, prized for its natural resistance to moisture and insects, making it well suited to protecting fine garments over generations.
