Vintage Japanese Ohi-Yaki Stoneware Lidded Jar, Orange Glaze - Mizusashi

A vintage Japanese Ohi-yaki mizusashi, stoneware lidded storage jar. Designed for use as a water jar during tea ceremony. Hand-made pottery, with a lacquered lid. The stamp and written note can attribute this piece to to the Ohi kiln, Kanazawa.

A cylindrical jar with slightly irregular walls typical of hand-thrown Ohi ware. The exterior is covered in a rich, layered glaze that ranges from deep amber and caramel through to iron-brown, with areas of pooling and drip. The surface has a rough, volcanic texture on the body with a smoother glaze quality toward the rim.
