Japanese Cast Iron Garden Lantern - Toro | Meiji
An antique Japanese hanging garden lantern. Made from cast iron. Meiji period.
A hexagonal pagoda-form lantern cast in dark iron with a raised seigaiha (overlapping wave) pattern covering the roof and base apron. The body features open fretwork panels with cast plum blossom and branch motifs. Dragon-form finials curl at each upper corner, and small cast bell pendants hang from hooks around the eaves. A single bell pendant is missing. The domed finial at the apex is cast with a ring fitting, suggesting the piece was originally suspended.
