Antique Chinese Carved Wooden Doors, Pair - Late 19th Century
An antique pair of carved wooden doors from China, dating to the late 19th century.
In plain wood throughout, each door has a lattice of interlocking rounded shapes below a plain top panel, then a carved ribbon band. The main lower panels each hold a carved roundel, one showing a deer beneath pine branches and the other a maned beast, with further carving in the corners. In Chinese art the deer is a long-standing symbol of wealth and long life.
