A Japanese stone garden lantern (ishidoro), in an oribe style. Made from hand carved granite.
This lantern separates into five pieces.
This style of lantern is also known as a "christian"style, as they were historically used in the Edo period to assist in the practice of illegal christian beliefs. The lanterns would be carved with christian symbolism that would be hidden in the ground once the lantern was buried.
