Japanese Choba Dansu, Merchant’s Chest – Paulownia | Meiji
A Japanese merchant’s storage cabinet (choba dansu). Made from kiri (paulownia) wood. This piece features a doored section hiding four drawers, as well as an outline showing where both drawer sections would have originally been locked by a wooden bar. Meiji period, late 1800's.
