A Japanese Ariake Andon (daybreak lantern) made of lacquered sugi (cedar) wood and paper.
These lantern were popular during Edo period and were designed to provide a dim light that could last until morining.
The wooden cover, featuring a moon-shaped opening, can be removed to increase illumination or used as a pedestal base.
